Cloud Based Secure Storage Model for Digital Forensics

  • Developed a digital forensic storage model that provides multiple layers of security to preserve and maintain the integrity of the digital evidence in a cloud environment so that it is deemed admissible in a court of law.

  • The model supports multiple roles and permissions allowing only authorized users to access and handle the digital evidence ingested in the system.

  • Authentication and authorization of users is managed using cryptographically signed JSON Web Tokens. Advanced Encryp- tion Standard and Hash-based Message Authentication Code techniques are used for encryption of data and maintenance of data integrity respectively.

  • Evidence file names are obfuscated and stored in a separate cloud service, making it less vulnerable. Maintenance tasks are also scheduled using the cron utility to rotate the encryption keys.
